Hi there, my name is Michael Robinson. I’m a furniture designer, the co-owner of Townehaus with my wife Carrie, and a husband and father of two amazing and beautiful girls.
I don’t just sell furniture. I design and curate pieces that are meant to be lived with, passed down, and still beautiful decades from now.
Most people walk into a furniture store looking for something that looks good today. Very few walk out with something that will still look right—and still hold together—when their kids are grown. That’s the gap we close at Townehaus.
I grew up with more tools than toys. My father was a sheet-metal worker who could fix or build almost anything. That hands-on, no-shortcuts mindset stuck with me. In high school I built my first chair out of cardboard and was hooked. I went on to study industrial design, then worked the sales floors of high-end retail furniture stores the hard way—100% commission, nights, weekends, and holidays. I started at Jonn’s Contemporary in Montgomeryville, PA, and later moved to Unique Interiors in Cherry Hill, NJ, where I spent years learning what real clients actually want from their furniture. Those years on the floor taught me more about design, quality, and longevity than any classroom ever could.
In 2016 I began working closely with Amish builders in Ohio and Indiana. That partnership changed everything. I finally saw what was still possible in this country: solid wood, honest construction, and designs that don’t chase trends. Today, designs I’ve created are carried in just over 300 stores across the United States. We speak with retailers nationwide on a regular basis and visit stores across the country, which gives us real insight into what their clients are asking for. We try to keep a broad perspective and never assume we’re right about anything. We research and we plan. Period.
In 2023 Carrie and I opened Townehaus in Moorestown, our home base. What started as a place to show my own designs quickly became something larger—a carefully edited collection of American-made furniture, lighting, accessories, and leather goods, all chosen with the same standard: it has to last, it has to feel right, and it has to earn its place in a real home. We work primarily with clients throughout New Jersey (including Southern New Jersey and all the Shore points), Philadelphia, and the Philadelphia suburbs.
